  OLVIDADA CIUDAD DE LOS IDIOTAS
   

As a proof of the past, but still recent, history of the psychiatric business in our country, the video Forgotten city of fools shows – according to a headline from the press of that period – the terrible case of the Psychiatric Prison of Valencia: a lunatic asylum where modern therapy is still ignored. And giving a testimony of the scarcity of the conditions and the very dubious therapeutic value of the treatments which they underwent, we find some survivors’ voices who, even if they were not completely gulped by the dynamics of the institution, have not received decent solutions from the most recent psychiatric reform.

I enrolled Jesús when I was 26, the reason to it was that I had a nervous crisis and I even slapped my father, not having the intention to hurt him, because you should never hurt your father.
I have never thought of myself as a fool, neither when I was in there nor when I was outside, I was not pleased with the fact of being there. I was given an electroshock, I broke my jaw and lost my teeth in four days, I think it was due to the lack of calcium in my teeth. I ended up having all my teeth moving and having the bone of my jaw broken on this side. During the electroshock, I was terrified, I did not want it and as I was given it by force, in the struggle my jaw was fractured.
